Where
It All
Began

Georgia Mold Mutts, LLC is owned by James and Jennifer Nelms. They began Georgia Mold Mutts after experiencing firsthand the devastation toxic mold can cause a family.

Our Story

In 2019, they spent more than six months and thousands of dollars having their home inspected by mold inspectors and tested with traditional mold testing. They were repeatedly told their home was clear despite medical testing showing they were being exposed to toxic mold and experiencing extreme health problems. They learned of a mold detection dog that sometimes traveled through their area and decided to give it a try. The mold dog was able to locate the toxic mold in their home within minutes of arriving. It was found growing hidden on a bathroom subfloor and had spread to their air ducts. The Nelms family then went through the full, successful remediation of their home and began the medical journey to treat their family for toxic mold exposure.

For several years now, they have helped and advised countless families who have reached out about how to detect mold in their homes and how to remediate their homes safely so they can begin to heal. With a passion for helping other families quickly and reliably locate mold in their homes so they can minimize the devastating impacts of mold, James and Jennifer founded Georgia Mold Mutts, LLC.

Murphy’s Mold Detection Training

As the owners of Georgia Mold Mutts, LLC, we are pleased to present the collaboration between Bill Whitstine, the pioneer in mold dog detection training, and our beloved team/family member, Murphy.

Upon acceptance into Bill’s exclusive training program, Murphy trained intensively every day for 8 months to complete his certification as a mold detection dog. As a result of his training, Murphy is certified to detect 16 different genera of mold. Presently, Murphy and our team engage in routine training sessions at diverse locations, including office buildings and department stores, along with our weekly in-home training regimen to continuously apply Murphy’s detection skills.

More About Murphy

Murphy is a two-year-old Lab mix who was adopted from a local shelter after arriving there as a stray from a rural area of Georgia. Murphy loves to spend his time taking long walks through the local woods, visiting Lake Lanier and going on adventures with his humans when he is not doing detection work.
